One of the great things about organizing for Sacred Spaces is meeting and collaborating with those who are passionate about Hong Kong Culture. In that spirit, Sacred Spaces is launching a series of talks designed to create a platform for those who are developing cultural events and programs related to Hong Kong. For our inaugural event, we've invited Miriam Lee to talk about her project titled: Strolling Tankas / 蜑家妹出走記. Strolling Tankas is a project that Miriam has developed highlighting Causeway Bay’s Tanka Community and their contribution to life here in Hong Kong.

非常佩服母親大人對小孩「放手」的勇氣,這對訓練我們獨立和自己解決難題十分有幫助。很難想像她會容許我們幾個小不點,自己划著小艇離開她的視線範圍玩上大半天。

Miriam grew up in Hong Kong with Tanka roots. Her family has, for centuries, lived on boats near Causeway Bay. As a member of the first generation who has lived entirely ashore Miriam is passionate about sharing her collective memories of this vanishing Community. She has started “Strolling Tanka" as a way to gather information on the Causeway Bay Tankas, and highlight the important place of the Tankas have had in the development of Hong Kong.

At this event, Miriam will share with the audience details about the project including personal stories, photographs of the Tanka community as well and other related facts. There will also be an interactive session for you to ask her anything you'd like about her personal and family roots.

Why not spend a few hours getting to know Miriam and hearing about her ambitious project.

The event is schedule for August 8, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM and is FREE of charge. It will be located at WeWork Wan Chai 33 Lockhart Road. There will be a short "Meet and Greet" before the talk as well as a Question and Answer session afterward. The talk will be held in both English and Cantonese. Refreshments will be served.
