Visit Digital Dunhuang Exhibition at Hong Kong Heritage Museum

Of all the Sacred Spaces in China, "Dunhuang / 敦煌" is among the most important. In recent times Dunhuang has become an umbrella term for a series of religious, historical, and archeological sites in Gansu Province / 甘肃省 that represents religious life along the ancient Silk Road. The Magao Caves / 莫高窟 are the most famous of these especially for both adherents and scholars of Buddhism. Unfortunately, this interest has put Dunhuang in danger. The Digital Dunhuang Project was designed to address this by creating a near perfect representation of several of the Magao Caves for viewing. This worldwide effort, spearheaded by the conservancy Friends of Dunhuang first made an appearance in Shenzhen which several of us at Hong Kong Sacred Spaces attended a few months ago. Now, this exceptional project is in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Hong Kong Sacred Spaces has scheduled an English language tour of the exhibit for Hong Kong Sacred Spaces Society Members.
